Great idea!
A couple of years back, our local baseball academy was collecting bats, gloves, etc. but I don't remember where they were being sent.
Son's high school team did a day for a local mentoring program where the players taught basic drills, played games, had competitions, etc. They sent each kid home with a glove and a ball (maybe a bat, I don't remember - I seem to be doing a lot of that lately). At any rate, the kids reactions were amazing. Some of them had never held a baseball before, but couldn't wait to play some more.
