I'll bet many of you have lots of used baseball equipment lying around that is not being used.

Anyone know where we might be able to send them to those less fortunate who love the game but unable to afford to buy any equipment? Big Brothers, we have a chapter close by here.

Any ideas?

Hi TPM,

Great idea!

A couple of years back, our local baseball academy was collecting bats, gloves, etc. but I don't remember where they were being sent.

Son's high school team did a day for a local mentoring program where the players taught basic drills, played games, had competitions, etc. They sent each kid home with a glove and a ball (maybe a bat, I don't remember - I seem to be doing a lot of that lately). At any rate, the kids reactions were amazing. Some of them had never held a baseball before, but couldn't wait to play some more.

I know that RBI (Return Baseball to Inner Cities) works with some Boys and Girls Clubs. You might want to check here:

and that directs you to these local sites:

Can't think of a better way to give thanks for all of the joy baseball has brought to our family. Thanks for the suggestion!

South Plaquemines High School

Three high schools in SE Louisiana were completely destroyed by Hurricane Katrina. The three schools were consolidated into one. Two years later they are still using a gym with no electricity. They have lost of of their equipment to the hurricane. I am in the process of getting information. If anyone would like to donate equipment (baseball, football, basketball, softball), I will post the address and the names of the coaches. By the way, the football team is headed into the 3rd round of the state playoffs. These boys have heart. The conditions at the school are being compared to a third world country. How horrible for this to be going on 2 years later.
TPM I read your post and reached out to a MLB Scouting Director whom I know is involved in the RBI program and the Minority Scouts association. If you all would like me to get more info on these organizations and maybe organize a drive to gather this equipment I would be honored. As a community let me know how to proceed.
