SoutherNo1 wrote to me this morning asking what I thought about trying to get a holiday greeting card going for our serviceman overseas.

I contacted shortstopmom who said she would take care of it when it was all done.

So SoutherNo1 thought our goal should be 100 electronic greetings!

I think we could keep it on a baseball note, or something else appropriate perhaps adding names of our players, if you desire, team, etc and links for them to follow.
So here goes!

To whom it may concern,
I would like to take this opportunity during the holidays to thank you for what you do so that my son can go to college and play baseball.
He aspires to be a professional player someday. He doesn't know how lucky he is, that we have so many wonderful men and women who have careers in our armed forces and would give up so much for him to pursue his career, in a safe and free county. When baseball season comes around check out www.ClemsonTigers.com #47!
Have a wonderful holiday! May God bless you!

To our dedicated Troops,
Thanks to you, my 17 yr. old son, and my 16 yr. old daughter are able to sleep peacefully this fine Saturday morning in North Carolina. When they awake, they will be able to pursue all that they want, or dream. I'm sorry that a simple "thank you" doesn't begin to give you the accolades you so admirably deserve. You are in our thoughts and prayers.

quote:
Most know I have a son that plays professional baseball. What some don’t know is I also have a son that is a professional soldier in Iraq. Both are passionate about what they are doing. Both have given up what I consider a normal life to do what they are doing. Both are unsure of their future. I am as proud of one as I am of the other. Why do they do it? Sometime I get this dumb idea and think that I might have said something that factored into their decision to do what they are doing. Not so. They are doing it because THEY chose to do so. I had a great day with my baseball son yesterday as we spent the day duck hunting and just enjoying life. While I did have a great day with my youngest son, I know it is people like my oldest son that makes those days possible. Yesterday between the flights of ducks my mind thought of my oldest son and of his last email he sent me from Iraq a few weeks ago ……

I have been sent out for an assault on a few cities. I will be out of pocket for about 2 1/2 months. I will get in touch when I can.

To all our service people:

I quoted the above from another topic dedicated to thanking you. Fungo is our biggest star here on the hsbbweb and I think you can see why.

You have my utmost respect and appreciation for the difficult things you do and the sacrifices you make. These sacrifices including the ultimate sacrifice make things like baseball and living in a free country possible. I will forever be in your debt. My son is a shortstop at Coastal Carolina (#16) and our family dedicates this season to you.
Whenever my son steps out onto the baseball diamond, I am a proud mom. Whenever I think of our dedicated military....I am a proud AMERICAN! Thank you from the bottom of this family's heart for your service and sacrifice. We have the luxury of sleeping well at night knowing that America's best have our backs protecting us throughout the world. God bless you one and all and Happy Holidays to America's true heroes.....YOU! My son is #25 and a catcher at Penn State for the Nittany Lions.

Dear friend,

I think of you often, and I want to Thank You from the bottom of my heart. A bunch of us gather here frequently to talk about baseball. Of course we love to watch the game too! Pitchers' parents love to hear "Strike three!" while parents of hitters cheer at the call "Safe at home!".

"Safe at home!" Because of your sacrifices, we are here, safe at home. Mothers and fathers, little kids and senior citizens, we all go to bed at night and wake up in the morning, without the sounds of combat, without the fear of our homes being burst into and being dragged off ...

Because of your bravery, we are safe at home, and we know you are working to bring freedom and safety to lands where that has been unknown for decades, even generations.

My husband is a police sergeant, our older son is a pitcher for a small college in Minnesota (out on medical redshirt this year), and younger son is a classical guitar major at the Univ of Minn. Especially at this holiday season, we pray for your safety and good health, and pray that you will know we are thinking of you and looking forward to the day when you will be "safe at home" with your family and friends again. Thank you, and God bless you.

Baseball has always been a huge part of out American way of life. We are able to watch professional athletes give us their best in order to win. We take it very seriously, often times too seriously. The only things that truly matter are God, Family and Country. You give us your best so that our families and this nation can be free. I respect, honor and appreciate each and every one of you heroe's more than any one of my beloved Cub's.

WE ARE THE LAND OF THE FREE BECAUSE OF THE BRAVE! GOD BLESS AMERICA!

To all of the members of our armed services:

You are the bravest, most courageous, and the most giving that our great country has to offer. When I think of what all of you do for all of us it brings a tear to my eye...every time. Around our house you have earned our respect. We will never be able to fully appreciate what you have and continue to do for us.

In our family we keep abreast of what is happening around the world. Your efforts are having a positive effect on a troubled world. We know the vital importance of what you are doing for us.

We do realize your tremendous sense of duty and the sacrifices that you have willingly endured to protect our family...we simply can not thank you and your families enough.

To all of you who believe in Christ, please have a Merry Christmas. For all others please have a Happy Holiday Season. And all of you have a happy, prosperous, and safe New Year.

May your God bless you.

To our dedicated military men and women ...

As has been stated elsewhere in this message, we Americans owe our gratitude to you for all the sacrifices that you make everyday so that we can be safe in our own homes, safe while going about our daily activities, safe to raise our families and look to a prosperous future for our countrymen. Being married to a Viet Nam vet, I have come to appreciate the hardship that your chosen career can bring to you and your loved ones. I pray daily that you are all protected by God so that you can return home safely.

May you have a blessed holiday celebration, whether it be Hannakuh or Christmas, and I pray that you will all be home safely in 2007.

When our son, who is a minor league player in the Arizona Diamondbacks' organization, takes the mound in a game, I will think of how his life has been impacted so positively by men and women like you, and I will say a prayer for your safety. (He hopes to return to the Southern League in 2007, playing baseball in Mobile, Alabama so if any of you are around that way, look for RHP A J Shappi out there.)

To ours guys and gals in uniform:

You are the bravest of the brave. All of the folks posting in this message are baseball fanatics, having sons, and an occasional daughter, played college or high school baseball, or both. Baseball is our passion, and we have the freedom to enjoy our passion because of your bravery and the bravery of all our troops. You may have joined the military for a thousand different reasons, some good, some bad, some we likely wouldn't believe in our wildest imagination, but whatever your particular reason was, it doesn't matter now. You are part of a group of men and women for which their is tremendous support and pride back home, and we wish you a very merry Christmas, with God's blessings, and we hope you're all home and catching a baseball game soon....and for all you followers of Virginia Tech...GO HOKIES!
My family prays for your safe and speedy return. For those of you deployed in Iraq and Afghanistan, we cannot imagine the circumstances in which you find yourselves, and can only hope that messages such as these increase your store of strength.

Your bravery is appreciated, as is your dedication to your country.

We live in Orlando, my son plays for Georgia State ---- sending my strongest mojo to protect you Southern Soldiers!
GOT YOUR BACK

I am a small and precious child, my dad's been sent to fight.
The only place I'll see his face is in my dreams at night.
He will be gone too many days for my young mind to keep track.
I may be sad, but I am proud.
My daddy's got your back.

I am a caring mother, my son has gone to war.
My mind is filled with worries that I have never known before.
Everyday I try to keep my thoughts from turning black.
I may be scared, but I am proud.
My son has got your back.

I am a strong and loving wife, with a husband soon to go.
There are times I'm terrified in a way most never know.
I bite my lip, and force a smile as I watch my husband pack.
My heart may break, but I am proud.
My husband's got your back.

I am a Soldier, serving proudly... standing tall.
I fight for freedom, yours and mine, by answering this call.
I do my job while knowing, the thanks it sometimes lacks.
Say a prayer that I'll come home,
IT'S ME WHO'S GOT YOUR BACK!!!

Thanks for having our back.
Our thoughts and prayers are with you.
Happy Holidays
To the troops,

My heart goes out for all those who have fallen, my praise goes to all those who have returned, and my respect goes to all those who participate.

On the HSBBW we talk of commitment, leadership, competitiveness, winning, losing, training, focus, and the list goes on. Bottom line, while our kids are learning those lessons while playing a game, you brave solders are using the same lessons in order to preserve/spread democracy and freedom. Have a safe holiday and remember that while we cannot stand along side you, we are definitely standing behind you. My Holiday wish is for your safe and successful return.

My son, #18 from the University of IL-Chicago is my favorite player, but you guys play for my favorite team.

To All U.S. Military Personnel:

"Thank you" seems like a small thing to say, but it is with deepest gratitude and humility that I offer it. I know you have chosen a difficult career and have put your personal lives on hold for the benefit of the rest of us. Yours is a noble calling and millions of us pray for your safety and for your waiting families on a daily basis. May God bless you and shield you from those who seek to harm you.
