Has anyone ever heard of a college head coach, who is actively recruiting a player, asking for a "home visit?" If so, what was/is the motive there?

Their scouting the house for future burglary potential
Well Jim Harbaugh spent the night at a recruit's house....so there's that I can honestly say I've never heard of it in baseball....and my son had a close friend that was recruited by a bunch of big name schools. I guess I will say that most of the recruiting up here was done in the summer.....maybe if a HC is really hot after someone this time of year he'd visit the house since it's not likely that he is going to be able to go meet the kid/parents at a field somewhere.
The HC probably wants to charm the parents and try to get a deal done.
BTW, Harbaugh doing the sleepover thing is so cringeworthy I get chills just thinking about it yikes.

I've heard stories, more on the professional scouting side, of stuff like this happening - where they want to see the family before they make the draft pick and financial investment on the kid.

I'm thinking it's probably this, and have access to all of us in our own environment, since essentially all the other boxes have been checked. I was just curious as to others' experiences. Thanks!
Routine - for guys truly wanted. Especially if the prospect is local. HC is coming to try to "close the deal."

I wonder if he's wanting to "charm" one of the parents more than the other?

It's my son that needs to be charmed. My wife and I are in favor of him going to the school.
The home visit was not at a level we experienced for college baseball recruitment. I have a feeling that is reserved for a few, extremely talented recruits.
However, I did witness a phone call from the 2010 College World Series MVP (who previously played for the same travel team) to one of my son's travel teammates urging him to accept the Coaches offer. It was very effective.
I don't like relatives sleeping over. Not sure if I would want my kid to go to a school that can't afford to give a coach a nice hotel suite to stay in
