On a batted fly ball to the outfield. If the outfielder at the fence makes a leap to catch the ball, catches the ball and flips over the fence, is this considered an out, or a homerun?
I've done some reasearch on the topic (MLB Rules) and it is not clearly defined. From what I understand, the rules only use reference to foul territory where as the field must either be in play or his/her feet must be 'over' playable territory. If the ball is caught and the fielder end out out of the play, it's ruled a dead ball and runners adavance one base....
Is this true for a ball in fair territory, and his over the fence in fair territory considered out of play?
Little confused... any help appreciated.
