Team will be in Phoenix at the end of March.

Which hotel area would be more "family friendly"?
La Quinta (Thomas Rd)
Ramada (Metro Center)

The prices are comparible.

In other words which one would you rather have your family stay in? (or neither)

I also posted in the "Sunbelt forum" but not much activity for a week or so.

We played down there last year at the end of March. My team was there for a week and stayed at a place on University Drive, just a few minutes drive east of ASU. I forget the name of the place, but I think coach is taking the guys back to the same place this year at the end of March.

My parents found an alternative to a hotel down there that was a little bit cheaper for them. Both of my parents traveled with my sister, brother, sister-in-law and my 2 month old nephew to Arizona for the week to watch me play. Instead of getting two hotel rooms for the week, they were able to find a condo that was right down the street from our hotel. There was a website that they used to find it. something like cyberentals.com. I'm not too sure of the exact site, but you can look into that if you have a few people going, or want to look into it with some other parents.

This area was pretty good location for us traveling to games. We played in the RussMatt stuff down there and it wasn't much of a ride to any of the parks we played at.
We've stayed at the La Quintas a bazillion times pcsing across country, etc. We usually stay at the La Quinta Suites,..which almost always have a pool. They are clean, have a great complimentary breakfast ( make your own Belgin Waffles, muffins, hard boiled eggs, fruit, cereal, and biscuits & sausage gravy, etc. ) & they usually have a family restaraunt ( ie: Denny's, IHop, etc. ) either attached or next door. Pools are small, but clean, and they supply the beach towels. Most have fee free work out room too, which comes in handy.
They have been a good motel for the money in our experience.

The problem is not with LaQuinta, which usually is fine. The problem here is the location of this particular LaQuinta. I just would not have my family stay anywhere in that particular area. The same is true -- although to a much lesser degree -- for the other hotel mentioned. In regard to the question regarding Tempe, there are lots of hotels much closer actually in Tempe or in the area surrounding Sky Harbor Airport. If you want to get a little more upscale but still in the general Tempe area, head north on Scottsdale Road to the Old Town Scottsdale and Fashion Square Mall area.

Frank, the LaQuinta you are speaking of is about 12 miles north and west of the one in question here but actually more than a world apart in settings and amenities of the areas.

Thanks for the input. We will be playing 1 game at Sandra Day O'Connor HS & 3 at Boulder Creek HS.

Trying to keep the price down of course since it's school trip.

Not really knowing the area, La Quinta sounded good untill we found out it was more of a truck stop area. Ramada has about the same deal with a better breakfast and better area.

Just looking for something under $100.00 (PLUS TAXES)that we don't have to sa"OMG" when we get there.

In that case the farther north the better. You actually might consider the area around the Peoria Sports Complex (where Frank F mentioned)...its very convenient to SDO. Boulder Creek is not going to be close to much of anything as its way up north.

My kids go to SDO HS. SDO is in far northwest Phoenix. Boulder Creek is in Anthem which is just north of Phoenix.

If you want to stay at a La Quinta, I believe there is one on I-17 and Greenway Rd. That puts you in northwest Phoenix about 10-15 minutes from SDO and about 20-25 minutes from Boulder Creek. You'd take I-17 north for both of those schools.
jemaz,..I noticed you addressed one of your replies to me. I was just commenting on La Quintas in genereral. Not debating anything or trying to counter anyone's previous post. ( I revised my earlier post this morning as when I reread it, thought it was too wordy. Who me? Too wordy? Never! Hardy har har Big Grin!! )
Glad you are more familiar with the specific location that might be used. It always helps to have someone who has actually been there or knows of the area first hand!
Another great reason why the HSBBW comes in so handy! Smile
