We're currently on a team full of seniors (8). Most are talented players. We also have a good bunch of talented juniors right behind them.

The juniors don't play JV, and have hardly gotten a sniff of the field. Maybe a pinch hit, DH or pinch run here or there...but not a sniff of field duty.

On this team, a senior has to be terrible to not play.....and even an all star junior can't beat an average senior out. (My son isn't the all star)

To top all that off, we aren't winning. We're losing ugly on errors and poor hitting. Winning would cure alot of ills.

I know the score, and the coach always wins. So how about some success stories about kids who still made it to the next level from this situation?

Just something to tide me over until summer/fall ball.

Thanks

A friend was stuck behing a loaded team in high school. He finally got to start and catch his senior year. High school ball would have been it. Halfway through the season the coach decided he's short on pitching. The kid pitched six games. The sixth was the conference championship. He was facing a highly scouted stud. He outpitched the stud in front of a bunch of scouts K'ing 17 and hitting 88-90. He was drafted two weeks later and signed.

I was cut my freshman and sophomore years. Reason, attitude and temper. I fixed both. (Temper too longer) and started my Junior and Senior years and got to play some college ball as well. (I was terrible in college.) Now, look at my life. Everything I have is because of baseball.

Another story - We had a team that was very good and the seniors were exceptional. Most were 3 year starters. Of course, if you were a junior, you were in big trouble because your playing time was going to be very limited. So Seniors graduate and next year all of the Juniors come out. They start and won 24 games that year. Not bad for a team that returned one starting pitcher. That pitcher, the SS, 2 OFs, c and 3B all went on to play in college.

Thanks folks, for the posts and the private messages. It helps to know you're not the only one to face these challenges, and that there is light at the end of the tunnel.

The only problem is how to keep the kid motivated. He keeps book, hits outfield practice, shags balls, heck he'd catch the bull pen if they let him.

I'm pacing like a caged lion, eating sunflower seeds and biting my tongue!!
