Yes, their pitching is very deep. Three starters who have a combined ERA of below 3.0, and the PAC 10's best closer.

Their bats are coming alive at just the right moment, and their team speed is excellent. They put a lot of pressure on opposing teams.

In the 15-0 blowout, they were criticised for bunting a guy to 2nd with a 10 run lead in the 6th inning. At the time I thought: "darn right - the world series is on the line and a 10 run lead can disappear." Others thought it was not appropriate, but I totally disagree.

Stanford scored 17 and 12 runs in two of their regional games. They can mash. They have a 6'6" 280 pound right fielder who looks like a giant. He threw one ball in that left a vapor trail.

The Beavs have a real shot. All the elements are there, including the experience of having been there before. I will not be surprised to see them go deep into the tournament, even win it.

The best thing is that almost all the players are from Oregon or the Northwest. We watched most of them in high school. Pat Casey has created a pipeline where all the best recruits want to go to OSU. He's had a good recruiting class this year, which includes a webster.

Should be fun for years to come. My own son (a Ducks fan)some time ago said "Dad, for the first time ever I would consider going to OSU."
Hey Wally woodman,

Ya Beav,

Hey Wally, could you drive me to Omaha.

Oh I don't know Beaver, I took you last year.

I know Wally, but I'm better prepared for the trip this year.

Hey squirt what make's you think you have a chance.

Oh Hello Eddie the East Coast Bias.

Hey Eddie lay off the Beav.

OK, OK Wally don't get all upset, Just given Beav the Biz.

Ya well layoff, I think the Beaver is going to do something special this year.

Ya Eddie Layoff, You never did anything.

Hi Whitey, Hi Lumpy, Hey can we go.

Oh I don't know, we might not have enough room in my car.

Borrow Mrs. Cleaver's

You want to go in a Mini van. Sure why not.

I'll ask.

Hey we want to take the Beaver's to Omaha,

CAN WE BORROW THE KAR MA
Feathers Shep? Are you implying that my beloved BEAVS are not going to make it past the Rice Owls and their feathered flock?

The BEAVS will take a bunch of bites with those marvelous bucked teeth and bring down yet another big tree that they'll use to bat the ball out of the park!

Those BEAVS know how to deliver a good pelting!

Don't stand too close to their tail or they'll spank you!

And don't try to lodge any complaints...cuz they'll just use it for housing.

They just flat out do a dam good job!

GO BEAVS!

Of course there were those who said I belonged in a padded room for suggesting that the Beavers were going deep into the CWS!

Just think how the white coated men would have come for me if I would have predicted the Beavs were going to shut Rice out in two straight games to advance to the CWS final?

And of course the folks around Portland who still believe I am certifiable for thinking I could assemble an investment group to buy the Blazers.

There's something to be said for being too stupid to know something is impossible!
Agree Oregon St is good. I posted that when some TX folks thought they would be heading to Omaha when they "only" had Oregon St as a possible super regional opponent.
However, does anyone think it is worth throwing Nickerson for 14 2/3 innings with just 2 days rest? I will bet the Detroit Tigers who picked him in the 7th round weren't cheering wildly.
In 2004, one pitcher literally carried his team to an NCAA championship. Pitched 36 innings in the Regional and NCAA's...a period of about 13 days. Drafted in the 7th round. Had TJ surgery about 6 weeks later and hasn't returned so far as I know. Would not be surprised if Nickerson isn't scheduled for Sunday and for sure Monday. If he is, he could be looking at upwards of 21 innings in 7 days. Wonder if it is worth it?

You mean water rats? Eek

More a case of rootin' for Prepster's son. However, I really have not much doubt that the best team in college baseball won. The Beavers were terrific down the stretch...they play a brand of baseball that is very fun to watch.

Now their fans...hmmmm...well...hmmmm. Big Grin

What's the matter JB...water rat got your tongue? Beaver fans are...hmmm...well...happy!

I truly hope that many future CWS Championships will be fought as closely as this series was. Tonight's game was one of the most tense, dramatic, and enjoyable games that I've seen in a long time.

It was a great game...very much enjoyed it. And there is little doubt in my mind that the best team ultimately won. Too bad West Coast baseball doesn't get the respect it deserves at selection time?!

Well maybe that respect will be coming out west now...we'll see.

I'm glad you enjoyed the game...it would have been difficult not to...regardless of who you were pulling for.
