Wanted to give a shout out to Cape Henry (Virginia Beach) grad, Robert Morey and the UVA Cavaliers!

Morey tossed 6 shutout innings and struck out 9 as the Cavs defeated San Diego State and Mr. #1 draft pick & 103mph man Steven Strasburg... way to represent southside (and all) VA baseball!

... by the way, Strasburg was pretty darn good too as he pitched 7, allowing 8 hits, 2 ER, but struck out 15 (!) and walked none.

What's amazing about UVA is how young they are... check out this paragraph from the game...

"Phil Gosselin (So., West Chester, Pa.) and Steven Proscia (Fr., Suffern, N.Y.) each homered for Virginia. The Cavaliers finished with 13 hits, led by Proscia with three. Jarrett Parker (So., Stafford, Va.), Danny Hultzen (Fr., Bethesda, Md.) and Keith Werman (Fr., Vienna, Va.) each had a pair of hits in their first NCAA tournament action."... "Facing Leary in the bottom of the eighth, the Cavaliers got a one-out single from John Hicks (Fr., Sandy Hook, Va.), who then stole second base."

That's 3 sophomores (including Morey) and 4 freshman doing all that damage!

Those who didn't stay up late last night missed another strong game from UVA. Their bats didn't wake up until late, but their pitching and some stellar defense kept them in it until they could get some runs.

Strasburg beaten; UCI (nation's # 1 in the eyes of some) beaten.

Three games, 2 runs allowed total. Absolutely amazing.

Congrats to those boys!
I should add that it's now doubly a darned shame that UVA got under-ranked by the NCAA committee. Not only did they not get a regional, they really should've been home for the supers as well.

A shame for us fans, to be sure. I would've worn my Wake hat but I still would've pulled for them, for the pride of the ACC if nothing else!
