I'm sure I could probably dig this up with some research, but as I was looking at the changes this week in the college Top 25 rankings, and how they're fairly consistent at the top but not entirely ... and pretty different overall ... I wondered if anyone knows what specific factors any or all of the organizations that publish rankings use? Just curious.

These are today's rankings from, left to right, Baseball America, D1Baseball.com and PG:

"How are college Top 25 rankings determined?"

We were talking about this at dinner the other night.  There are a few highly ranked teams that we follow very closely.  At this time in the season, we've narrowed it down to either last years results, coaches reputation or voodoo.

The picture will be much clearer in a few weeks when these teams finally gets some conference games under their belts.  Seriously, this is like giving an employee a performance review before they've got out of new hire training.  The college game is so dynamic.  Most top level coaches get their players for only 3 years at best with all the turnover and changes.  Nobody in their right mind can know how these teams are going to gel or perform not to mention there are so many teams.  Totally ridiculous to predict in my honest opinion

I know that some find humor in these rankings, but baseball is a big business and that includes college as well.

A top 25 team ranking can mean a lot of difference to some players that the coaches want to sign. Everyone wants to play for a top ranked team.

As many of you know, sons pitching coach at Clemson is now the HC at Florida. I wish that I had a dollar for every one of the inquiries that I get here regarding Kevin O'Sullivan and for Clemson as well.

I have been following college baseball for many years, every once in a while a school gets hot and gets to play in Omaha, but reality is, that 8 of the top 25 from day 1 usually make the field.
