Big Congrats to District 5-5A Playoff Teams !!!!
All Three Are Still Living the Dream
Forgive me for those outside 5-5A but allow me to recap and maybe gloat just a little:
Keller (District Champ)- Sweeps Highly Regarded Lewisville and Their Two Aces. Keller continues to pound the ball up and down the line-up and Stafford is nails on the mound in the clincher.
P.S. KD, you should be real proud of #2 son. IMO, he was the Farmers toughest out and best all around player. Their other Big Boy gets the most pub, but I'd have Choate on my team any day. He will be fun to watch next year.
Southlake Carroll - Eliminates Higher Ranked District 8-5A Champs Allen and Move On to Face a Tough Flower Mound Squad. Way to Go Dragons!!! Amazing job by Coach Hughes and these guys are hitting on all cylinders - literally.
Colleyville Heritage - Eliminates FWST Number 1 Ranked, District 7-5A Champ Arlington Martin. In games 2 and 3 their bats were red hot and they got serious 'gut check' performances from their two aces, Lane and Deleo. I was at the game today and the Panthers just would not let Martin in the game from the 1st inning. Top to bottom they are POUNDING the ball.
Also, I spoke with one of the Colleyville players before the game and he said after Thursday night's whooping at the hands of Martin, during the post game hand shake the Martin players were saying "Welcome to Round 2". You know, it's great to be confident but when you get COCKY, the baseball gods have a way of HUMBLING you.
Moral Lesson - win with GRACE, lose with GRACE. After Thursday night's thumping, I saw some posts implying the series was over ... well, it is now for Martin. Way to go Panthers.
Their victory sets up a tense, crosstown rivalry showdown with my beloved Indians. It should be fun and I know both teams will have their game faces on. Can't wait!!!!
Also, I'm going to go out on a limb and predict that a 5-5A squad will make it to the Regional Semi-Finals . I know; that sounds like a KD prediction!
Having said all that, in my admittedly BIASED and somewhat humble opinion, there's no tougher Metroplex district (upper half teams) than 5-5A. Other districts may have a stronger top team (Mansfield, Newman Smith, etc.) but it'd be tough to find a district with 3 TOP Quality teams to match Keller, SLC and Colleyville. Plus, throw in a stellar Denton Ryan team who didn't make the playoffs - wow.
On a final note, HUGE CONGRATS to those mighty Northwest Texans!!!! Way to go !!! Keep the GOOD TIMES rolling - good luck this next week.
Sorry for the long post but it's been a FUN weekend. Time to get HUMBLE again .
