Batter hits a line drive straight up the middle. Pitcher moves out of the way. The ball hits the rubber squarely and shoots foul out of play. It was an easy single if it didn't hiot the rubber... what is it now?
Stumped? Come now, this is the HSBBW! Easy question!! This is a foul ball. A ball is foul if the ball exits the field between home plate and either first base or third base .... including balls that contact the pitching rubber first. Fungo
gold glove, Sorry for joking about your question. That is a good question. While I have never seen a ball hit the pitching rubber and carom into foul territory (seems impossible), I had read about it in the official rules of baseball. Fungo
gg3.....if there's one thing I've learned around here it's that there are some VERY knowledgeable people around here and you're NOT going to put anything past them. Good question but A) it's already been discussed around here somewhere and B) Fungo knows!
