Son received a letter and request to fill out a questionnaire from a very good college. It is clearly understood that this is just a procedural thing that colleges do to start compiling a database on players. Regardless, it was a joy to see the letter and the positive reaction - motivation for son to keep working hard in the classroom.

Simple question entirely out of curiosity only - where do colleges generally get addresses in order to contact possible prospects?

From many sources.

Did your son attend a tournament with a travel team? A showcase?  Or a camp?  Did he fill out a questionnaire online..anywhere?  Does he get hitting or pitching lessons from someone at an academy?  Is he a registered 'regular' at an academy?

It could even be that a scout or a 'friend' of someone with a database saw him and entered him into it.  I also know that at one time Stanford was contacting nearly every HS coach in the country asking the coach if they had a player of interest.  Others likely do the same.

It doesn't really matter how, if your son has interest in the school, fill it out and send it back with a personal note as to why he would be interested in that school.

Good luck!
