Or just change the title of this thread to "Question for TRHit." Smile

Thanks,
Is this the same kid who didn't make the high school JV team?

It all depends on what tournaments the team plays in. If this is a typical city team, I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for scouts to show up.

There are "travel" teams of all different talent levels. Some are your typical 16U team with JV kids playing other JV level teams. Others are 16U where everyone is playing varsity as a sophomore or freshman and the team is playing up in an 18U league. I took my son to tryouts for the latter last summer and it was definitely an eye opener.
I recommend any player and parent attend a D1 baseball game before they start dreaming big. I first took my son in 7th grade when he started playing on the 60/90 field. He understands there's a level of ability he has to play at to have a chance. Right now he knows he's closer than last year.

Also take your son to a D2 and quality D3 game. It's not a given to play college ball. It's hard work. I'm shocked when parents of kids who don't make teams in high school, talk about playing college ball. Try one step at a time.

And yes, there are levels of 16U play that will blow you away if you haven't seen it before. My son's team is all 15U eligible. We're playing 16U this summer and 18U in the fall. The way we see it JV ball is 16U and varsity is 18U. It's all about development. Someone else can trophy hunt the $3 medal.
