If you have some tools, want to play right away, and don't mind being thumped on, CSU may be for you. I don't mean to be rude, but they have a long way to go.
For whatever reason, they have one of the toughest schedules in the state. I saw one of their games at UIC and it wasn't pretty. Their righthanded pitcher topped out at 68.
They played fine defensively, but they didn't seem to have a ton of pitching...a NECESSITY when you have an ambitious schedule.
Didn't recognize any of the names on their roster as being "players" from Illinois in the past few years.
Don't know anything about the coaching staff or how they recruit.
Not sure about the commitment to the program by the School Administration. I know that they have had a problem getting a serious commitment for their basketball program. Looking to get some additional capital funding for residence halls.
Not sure about the challenge academically but their admission requirements are likely on their site and that tells you their story. Just got back from their site....830 SAT and 17 ACT and/or 2.0 will get you admitted. Lots of kids from touch Chicago and suburban Chicago high schools likely dot their classroom rosters.
Campus is relatively small but nice enough.
Agree with RZ. They are far away from being competitive and I think that they made a big mistake in scheduling teams like Miami and others that are going to POUND them when the kids should be having fun in college.
They have a few talented players but not enough at this time.
