Being new to Texas and hearing of what is expected at Northwest, got me to wondering, how many kids are normally on a Texas High School Baseball team?
I understand the last year NW had 20 + on the roster and expect a similar number this coming year. I also understand that many of these kids will, probabily, never see the field when it matters.
If a team mainly plays 12 to 14 kids, why would you not cut the guys who aren't Varsity material. Is it more cruel to be on a team and never play? The only benefit I see is that you can have full scrimmages against yourself, but what good is that if the guys aren't good enought to play when it counts.
Where we came from the average team had 16 players and some of those never got on the field (and that included 2 guys who only pitched, starters)
