Well, I must have too much time on my hands because I know the answer to this question. At least, I am close. I may have missed one or two but the best I can tell, there are 66 players from the RVA area that are on D1 rosters this spring. My crack research revealed the following nuggets:

1. No surprise that there are 15 players in the ACC with 7 at Va. Tech and 5 at Virginia.

2. 10 RVA kids are at VMI. That's the most at any one school.

3. James River HS has 7 kids on D1 rosters. Cosby has 6. Matoaca 5. Lee-Davis, St. Christopher's, Trinity Episcopal  and Mills Godwin 4.

4. There is an RVA kid at Yale, Notre Dame, South Carolina, Tennessee and West Point.

5. I'd have to say East Carolina is the greatest benefactor of RVA talent. Yorgen, Harmon and Lowry are starters and significant contributors this spring.

Well, I must have a bit too much time as well, because I went back through 4 years of rosters to find you are very close:  James River has 8 current D1 players (6 ACC and 2 CAA). The one you may have missed bounced around a bit, but landed at an ACC school (Pitt).  3 others played D1 but are not currently rostered:  1 now at a NAIA, 1 at D3 and the other not playing any longer.

I counted 9 from JRHS currently rostered at other levels.

BTW - those 8 current D1 players (plus the other 3) all played on the same team in 2011 that got to the state quarter finals.

Here's a tidbit for you:  Just three years ago, James River had 5 ACC-bound pitchers on its roster.  One never got to pitch in college due to physical issues, but the other 4 (Kirby and Roberts at UVA, Scheetz at Tech and Parnell at Pitt) were all there.

Hard to believe they fell short of a state title, but Scheetz went down with TJ that year, Roberts struggled with some physical issues that year as well, Parnell was more a reliever, and Kirby couldn't pitch every single game.  They lost a slugfest in the state semifinal game if I recall correctly.  Had they found a way to win that one, they'd've had Kirby for the finale.

Just goes to prove the old adage, you can never have too much pitching!

Closest thing to that roster right now is probably at Hanover.

I hate to put the thought in my your head, but it would be interesting to see how many are rostered from Tidewater and NOVA, too.

Just a quick glance at two schools: NOVA has 6 on UVA's roster, and 12 on JMU's roster.

JB at UNC: that should count for 20, right?

I took a gander at ODUs roster tonight and they have 13 Tidewater players (with 7 more from other areas in VA).  They didn't have to look far for talent.  The catcher and pitcher tonight were brothers (twins?).

I can't even believe I took the time to do this, although it only took 10-15 minutes...but here you go...

I counted 63 Tidewater players currently on D1 rosters in Virginia.  This does not include kids who are playing at D1s outside the state of Virginia.  I'm not sure of that number, but there are quite a few.

Based upon my brief scan it appears that Virginia Tech is the only D1 program in the state with 0 players from the Tidewater area.

I can't recall the exact boundaries I used I think it was Hanover, Henrico, Chesterfield, Dinwiddie, Powhatan….I'm sure I missed a few. I also counted up Richmond area kids at D2 schools in Va. (VSU & Wise) as well as ODAC. That number was 149 (to inc the D1 guys). My hunch is that it follows the population patterns (NoVa and Tidewater probably has more).
