The circumstances at our H.S. game last week was the following:
- Runner steals second but "inexplicably" returns to 1st (SS told him it was a foul ball which it was not). On the next pitch he steals second once again! Now has stolen 2nd twice ???

Would guess only credit for one stolen base?

Logic would suggest one stolen base.

With only the few exceptions proving the rule, you will find the most umpires do not read or care much about Rule 10. Most of the time you would receive faster and better quality of answers about scoring questions from a "Scorers" web site.
I'd give him credit for one stolen base and some good natured ribbing for being so gullible.....

Dont listen to the defense...

Now in NFHS games only, the SS was guilty of verbal obstruction and the runner could have been awarded the base....

The official NFHS interpretation from RUMBLE was:

When a defensive player lies and tells a runner that a ball was a foul ball, the felder is guilty of verbal obstruction....

But as Jimmy says.......as to scoring, I also dont get too deep into that rule....but JMOFF and his crew in the statistics and scorekeeping forum can advise you very well ......
