(As Of April 23)
ATLANTIC DIVISION
Florida State 13-7
Clemson 10-10
NC State 9-11
Wake Forest 7-13
Boston College 6-13
Maryland 4-16

COASTAL DIVISION
Virginia 17-3
Georgia Tech 16-4
Miami 14-4
North Carolina 12-7
Virginia Tech 6-14
Duke 4-16

Including Easter Sunday, the Terps have 10 ACC games left:

1 - VT at Home
3 - NC State at Raleigh
3 - UNC at Chapel Hill
3 - Wake Forest at Home

Seems to me UMD is chasing VT, BC & Wake for the 8th seed.

Wake has BC, Duke & UMD in their final 3 series. Figure they may win 5 of 10 remaining -- putting them at 12.

BC has UVA, Wake & NC State in their final 3 series. Figure they may win maybe 4 of their remaining -- putting them in at 10.

VT has Duke, Clemson & GT in their final 3 series (plus Easter Sunday at UMD). Figure they may win 5 of remaining 10 -- putting them in at 11.

I think Bear has hit the mark that 12 wins can get the Terps into the 8th slot -- the question is whether or not they can win 8 of their 10 remaining conference games against VT, NC State, UNC & Wake?

That would be a heck of a strong finish.

With this weekend's results, many see
either a Va Tech or Wake Forest for the
8th seed.

ATLANTIC DIVISION
Wake Forest 7-14
Boston College 6-15
Terps 4-17

COASTAL DIVISION
Virginia Tech 7-14
Duke 4-17

Wake plays the final 9 regular season conference games vs BC, Duke @ Terpville

VT plays Duke, Clemson & GT

I am choosing WF. That is an amazing turnaround WF Tom Walter has accomplished and with a kidney, smoke and mirrors! Smile

Simply amazing.

They lost their entire weekend rotation and other top players to the draft and graduation.
Wake has an opportunity, that's for sure. Still have to take advantage. We seem to have filled one hole in our weekend rotation, and that is helping. Lack of offense is still the big problem.

The problem we do have is that we lost the VT series, 2-1, so if we end in a tie, they go and we don't.

The advantage we have, as noted, is in schedule. We both play Duke, but where we play BC and MD, they play Clemson and GT. Hopefully that will help us get it done.
By the way, the divisions don't enter into the question of who makes the tourney at all. It can affect the seeding of the top 4, but as to who makes the 8-team field, it's straight conference records for all 12 irrespective of division.

I don't know why they even bother with the divisions, other than for scheduling issues (determining who is whose bye team each year).
With 3 Series and 9 Games left for each club, it would seem to me that if 12 is the Magic Number of wins it will take to get in, then things are stacking up as follows:

Team / Won / Lost / GP / Wins Needed

Locks
1 Virginia / 19 / 3 / 22 / In
2 Georgia Tech / 17 / 4 / 21 / In
3 Miami / 15 / 5 / 20 / In
4 Florida State / 14 / 7 / 21 / In
5 North Carolina / 13 / 8 / 21 / In

Likely
6 Clemson / 11 / 10 / 21 / 1 of 9
7 NC State / 9 / 12 / 21 / 3 of 9

Looking For The 8th Seed
Virginia Tech / 7 / 14 / 21 / 5 of 9
Wake Forest / 7 / 14 / 21 / 5 of 9
Boston College / 6 / 14 / 20 / 6 of 9

Looking Forward to Next Year
Duke / 4 / 17 / 21 / 8 of 9
Maryland / 4 / 17 / 21 / 8 of 9

Good luck to all the players, parents & fans involved in the chase. I'm looking forward to seeing how the tournament shakes out this year.

and don't forget WF protested FSU game when Martin used too many players for weekend series. if they follow the rules that game will get turned from L column to W for WF.

what is funny about that scenario is at the beginning of the series Martin gives Walter an award for his selfless act and at the end of the series he wasn't too happy when told WF was protesting the last game.

Agree -- Maryland season ends after their last ACC game.....
Hey TripHead,

Did you not hear of the current NCAA D1 Baseball Strength of Schedule (SoS) Rankings and the ACC teams in it? (out of 300 teams)

#5 Wake Forest
#8 North Carolina
#9 North Carolina State
#10 Gerogia Tech
#11 Maryland
#14 Florida State
#16 Clemson
#17 Miami
#22 Boston College

#220 Richmond

So what's the deal with your UVA Baseball SoS?

Also, congrats on your son's first college start on the mound vs Richmond, and O'Connors pre-arranged 3 IP to get win. I am sure you are proud!

True about the games in hand ... but it seems to me though that with the teams in question, actual games played and won are more valuable than games that have yet to be contested.

VT helped themselves by taking 2 of 3 from Duke, in Durham. They have an uphill climb, but it is likely that they only have to find a way to win 3 of 6 ... which seems less daunting than needing to win 5 of 9 (even if the competition is stronger).

Any way you slice it, my guess is that the eventual 8 seed will have a short visit to Durham for the ACC Tournament.
Actually, it's the 7th - 8th seed that busting out the college try, since Regional selections are around the corner.

The #1-#6 seed will be in a Regional somewhere, and most like hosting a Regional and Super Regional (even if knocked out of ACC Tourney). Why?

It's all about bringing the Regional/Super Regional /Omaha big bucks to the NCAA! It's time to promote the amateur college baseball athletes endorsements dollars & stipends.
Must comeback on Sunday.

Nice to see Bob's kid jack a three run bomb.

Terps Will be related to a spoiler roll vs WF.
It appears it's is leaning toward a WF vs Va Tech
for the 8th seed. Interesting enough, NC State if collapses, could be pushed out by BC.

I think I have a HS Jr prospect for your Conn Select. I will fill in the details in a separate correspondance. (or call you). The Dad took me
out to Golden 'OK' Coral after his son's rain-out HS game at Joe Cannon last night (and picking my brain). How about 60/40?
I get the 60% Smile

cheers

I heard your feeling better!

With a lest a series win over Boston College,
and a series win vs the two 'bottom dwellers' (Duke, and an end of the season conference series at Terpville), Tom Walter will have led WF to 13+ Conference W's, and that's the 8th (or 7th seed ....look out NC State!) in the 2011 ACC Tournament. WoW!

I recall as if it was yesterday, when Walter was in serious yet late discussions with Yow. When Wake came in early with a 'give em a deal he can not refuse' offer, I put the 7 3/8 Terp cap for Walter back on the shelf!

Mr GQ must be getting it done with smoke, mirrors, prayers and a life giving kidney!

Amazing turnaround! Simply amazing.

Just in: Wake Forest sweeps Boston College for
10 Wins in Conference, and another step closer to catching NC State for that 7th+ seed (and higher....and you have heard it hear first....... and higher seed! WoW

NC State wins on Saturday at Boston College,
they are the 7th Seed in ACC Tournament (which starts Wed). Wake, as 8th see will playing UVA.

Should WF sweep on Saturday at Terpville (and NC State loses to BC), Wake is the 7th seed, and has
a pretty good shot since they have beaten may ACC teams in regular season!

What was the 'magic #' for entry into Tournament.
Twelve. NC State and Wake Forest could finish regular season with 15-15 Conference record.

WoW!
