RT,
Sorry, I wasn't signaling you out, in fact, your workout (20 minutes) is perfect for starting pitchers but you didn't specify who it was for. Starting pitchers shouldn't warm up any longer than that, especially before a game, they become too tired later on. Just tosses for a brief time. Do you agree?
Also,I think son does his stretching after a game or bull pen, does that sound right?
TPM, thanks for clarifying.

I agree 20 minutes should be sufficient before a game. But I disagree that just some long toss is sufficient for a warm-up (if that's what you meant). I believe in warming up to throw. Also, since I work with young pitchers who are continually in development mode (especially in the strength department), I insist on our warm-up routine because it includes some strength and flexibility work. If I don't, I do them a disservice.

I agree with stretching afterwards.
RT,
I was away for the weekend and my laptop was about to take a dive (husband left power cord at home) so I didn't reread my post...duh.
What I was refering to was that your 20 minute warmup sounds like what my son does before he hits the mound for bull pen practice or at gametime, and what I meant was what you stated, warming up to throw should be the goal and his tossing is very brief, if at all and stretching afterwards not before.

I made a video last week on youtube. It was supposed to be a response about Greg Maddux pitching movement. Instead I ended up talking about what he had to say about mechanics and how he warmed up. There is no set program on this video about how he did it. Just me rambling on about what I saw and heard of him. But it may give you a different perspective on warming up from one of the greatest, if not the!
