As I read through hitting threads on HSBBW and other sites I'm amazed how many of them turn into pi$$ing matches on gurus and hitting philosophies, while at some point completely disregarding the original poster's question.

I believe it happens very often, but I also think a lot of good information comes out of those matches. You just have to sift through the junk to find the good stuff, IMO.
I have learned much from this site. Some was things I thought I had right, but was only close. Others reaffirmed my beliefs and teaching practices. Yes, even sometimes having to be hammered into my brain to make me see the truth. Many times pi$$ing me off so bad I could see stars, but it's all good if you take each thing and try it for yourself and see what works and what doesn't.
I believe a lot of the matches come about because it is difficult to explain physical movements over the internet and some because most have beliefs they have been practicing and teaching for years with some level of success. The hard part is to let go so you can get your hitters to the next level in their own swings.

And we're not surprised that you hadn't noticed... 
I have found the pi$$ing contest to be less on HSBBW, and people try to be polite. I found it more on BBF, but it has been less now, though it still happens.

- When a concept is discussed within the context of another thread, often the scheme of things turns into a bigger discussion on a philosophy of hitting.
- It is a two way sword when threads go off in a sidebar conflict. In one respect, yes it can turn into a battle of wills so to speak. However, there are concepts discussed in those tirades that often open other reader's eyes to agendas, ...
- Yes, there comes a point in these "hitting wars" where threads either need to be edited or deleted. I know that isn't popular with a lot of folks here. However, I hope all respect the fact that when I do so I at least contact the poster or posters as well as make a notification on the public portion of the site.
- Hitting and all that goes with it is a passion for some. It is for me. I've spent the last two days in a clinic just on hitting. One coach there came up and asked me why I'd spend the money to be there. My answer was, "Only a fool thinks he knows everything about hitting." I sat through that entire clinic, never missed a session and might have come out of it with 2 things. Those two things might make a huge difference for my kid.
- Don't lose sight of the fact that some posters on this site view poor information as potentially dangerous to players that have not developed as of yet and so, attempt to motivate others to question their belief system.
- Finally, some posters on this site have seen it all. Much like myself, they've been through Lau, Epstein, Hudgens, Peavy, Englishbey, *****, Yeager (I have no knowledge of ***** or Yeager). So when someone comes on with their observations, some members make comments because they've already "been there and done that" and know the pitfalls/strengths of most of these philosophies.

It is always sad when the original question and poster are lost in the shuffle.
There is a funny quirk to the human body, no two are usually alike.
Swing styles will vary but the task is always the same. Making conract with the ball to get the best results.
From a scientific view, the best method is the one that uses the least time and energy to get a desired result.
From a practical view, if it ain't broke, don't fix it.
The differences of opinion and the defenses of opinions usually turn more into learning experiences for the gurus, but we should always keep paramount the individual asking for opinions.

I usually get a headache after reading 3 or 4 posts on this site. Too technical. See it and hit it!
I have actually researched this. USA Today in 2003 attempted to find out what the most difficult thing to do in sports and determined that "debating" was the most difficult. It should come as no surprise that discussions about hitting will always turn sour.
