Our HS was top seed in an 11 team state tournament, Alaska Am. Legion. We lost the opening game to the ten seed. How do we get over the heartbreak and come back through the losers bracket? We lost once this whole summer, and this is devastating, one run down.

Two things to say here:

1) Do you like to play baseball games? I assume since you play baseball, you like to play games. So, now you have the chance to play more games than if you would have won your first round game.

2) Look to the 2006 OSU Beavers for inspiration. They survived six elimination games on their way to the NCAA title. It can be done.

AK, what is the alternative? LOSE AND BE ELIMINATED! That's how you deal with it. You go to work like you have a hard hat and a blue collar shirt on. You take each facet of the game and make sure you're better than the other team. You leave no stone unturned. ...and you believe in yourself and your teammates!
Thanks for the help. It was a major heartbreaker and a shocker for sure, but its in the past. We played a good, close game, but everything that could go their way... did, and that's just baseball sometimes. Our coach has a way of picking us up, and we've taken 2nd in state three years running, he wants it so bad for us. It took us off guard, but you're right Rob, we do get to play more and he mentioned that is a bonus. He said that the teams dropping into the losers bracket will be drained, and if it was like the game we played, he is dead on. Our goal is still in reach, we just have to take it step by step and play for each other. When we started busting our asses every night in the gym starting in December, up through now, its for this moment. This is our time, its what we play for. There is a reason why we are top seed, we just have to show each team what we've got. I'll let you know how we do.
if you let the bracket affect your mental approach to the game your "goose is cooked"

some good come-backs already mentioned ... I add another looser bracket story

in the 03 ACC tournamant GT played three games/28 innings on Sunday to win the tourny incuding a 9th inning 6 run rally to beat FSU & a 10 inning victory over NC State in the Championship ...

"Tech (44-16) won the title in historic fashion, sweeping a triple-header on Sunday against North Carolina (10-6), Florida State (10-7) and finally NC State (6-5, 10 innings). Tech had never played, or won, three games in the same day, but Sunday the Jackets played 28 innings in 11 hours and 20 minutes, beginning at 9:30 a.m. and finishing at 8:54 p.m."

good luck

Perfect! Great news!

Let me explain...

"Bad losses" are the result of three possible factors...

They were better than you on this day...Which you cannot control. Or they were lucky...which you cannot control.

You underacheived...which you CAN control.

The good news?...The searing pain of losing will sharpened your resolve, your focus, and your intent...

Now forget about winning the tourney...the only thing that matters is the game before you...

...and you compete that game, with great focus and confidence in your teamates, your preparation and your skills...

...One...Ball...At...A...Time....

Look no further, or deeper than that.
