I am currently a catcher on the varsity baseball team. I feel like I'm behind the game when it comes to getting noticed by college coaches. How can I get them to notice me. My team is not a very strong team due to the conference we are in. It seems like that colleges go to the "Big" school games, but not the worse teams games. Is there a way I can approach them to get them to come to games or what should I do to get noticed?

Here are a few suggestions...

1) Fill out recruiting questionnaires at the schools you are interested in. This will get you on their list of potential prospects.

2) Put together a DVD showing you in action (i.e. hitting, pitching, etc) and mail it to those schools. This will give the schools a taste of your skills and abilities.

3) Attend a camp at the school(s) you are interested in or attend a showcase. This will allow schools to see your skills and abilities first hand.

There are schools at all levels looking for quality baseball players. Taking charge of this process will help them find you. Then it's all up to your skills and abilities as well as their roster needs.

Good luck!

FlippJ,

Good advice in #s 1 & 3. I disagree with the DVD. Having spoken with many coaches across the country, the DVD is used as coaster for their drinks. Coaches get so many of them that they usually don't even watch them.

I would add:

1) Hook up with a top level summer team. Play against top competition.

2) Attend FREE MLB tryouts in your area.

3) Contact colleges that interest you. Provide them info about you along with your schedule.

Good luck!
The more decision makers and people that decision makers trust you can get in front of the better your opportunities for being noticed.

When you get these opportunities you have to show some tools that will cause them to "notice" you. You can get all the exposure in the world but if you dont stand out in some area that will cause them to "notice" you , you will not get noticed.

Arm strength. Ability to hit. Ability to hit for power. Speed. Ability to field at a high level.

If you have tools that will get you noticed then all you have to do is get in front of the right people and show these tools to get noticed. There are so many ways today to do this. You can be present a thousand times and never be "seen." The key is to develop your game to the point where you will be "seen" when those opportunities present themselves or you seek out those opportunities for yourself.

redbird has given you some great advice. Use it and good luck.
