I am a sophomore, and I asked something like this before, and got the response that it is not against the rules to contact a college coach so I should do that, even though they can not write back. I must ask then, what is the purpose in writing to them?

Should I contact the admissions office of schools I like, and mention I play baseball? If there are reasons to contact the coach, what should I say? I've read the articles on this site, but they don't really mention substance of letters, just when to write them. Any suggestions?

Your resume i.e., teams stats etc. will only be meaningful, relative to 3 things:
[LIST] Are the teams recent, no need to list what you did in 8th grade
[LIST] Are the teams reputaions well reasonably well known
[LIST]BUT, most importantly...do you have a well known instructor (scout if possible) or coach you can use as a reference.

When it comes to "baseball cold calling" which is what you're doing the only thing that's gonna impress a coach is..."Old So and So knows the kid...next time I see him or talk to him I'll ask about him. If Old so and so says you're a player -- you're on the radar screen.

Lesson, find some old so and so's at camps, scout teams etc.

Of course just my opinion. noidea
Forgot to mention...their are a few old So and So's on this board...(I say that with reverence guys) Like TRHIT, Bama Bomber, BBSCOUT. Since you're from jersey I'd contact TRHIT I'll bet he has lots of good advice.

Since your from Jersey, I'd seek out somebody who new the Rutgers Head Coach. He looks like an excellent coach to me and they take NJ kids almost exclusively.

I'd venture to say no kid in NJ who can play is unknown to him...which says he's gotta a lot of friends with eyes. worm

Are you on varsity? Am I correct that you are going to play JV this year?

There is not much you can tell the coaches about yourself and your baseball talent if you are not starting on varsity-- there is no harm in contacting schools you have interest in to get materials but then you can get all that info on line by reading their websites

If you are not on varsity I do not see the need in contacting college coaches

Mr Mom is correct about Coach Hill at Rutgers--if you have the goods he will know about you but all in due time.

I know you are anxious to get the ball rolling but until you are on varsity and making noise with your baseball ability I would cool my heels a bit
