What is the best method to prepare for HS baseball in NH when there is 2 feet of snow on the ground. My son will be a sophomore next year who played JV ball last spring and did fairly well. He has not been involved in AAU programs or organized winter baseball workouts and wondering if that is the best method to go? Thanks for the help.

We are in Connecticut, and I think our conditions aren't quite as severe. Still a challenge.

My son plays fall ball up until the first week of November. He will take a couple of weeks off then most likely find a winter indoor program which will focus mostly on hitting with some fielding work. The hard part is getting sufficient throwing, as most indoor facilities aren't big enough for long toss. We are working on that one.

He is a catcher, and he will catch bullpens for area pitchers. This keeps his legs in shape so he doesn't have to start over in the spring.

He will also work very hard on strength/agility training in a gym. You didn't mention if he is working out, but he is a great age to benefit from it.
I bet Bobby Tewksbary at AB Athletics could give you some ideas... I have no personal experience with him, but I know he has quite a following.

If you're not in the Nashua area - find something local that will develop the baseball muscles. My son has been going to Scott Prunier over at Top Fitness for the last few years during the winter. A couple years ago he did the winter pitching session that Colin Lynch held through the GSBA.

Rather than spending money on an AAU program for which there are very few for U16 and above - find somewhere where you can join - get hitting/throwing in, take lessons, etc. Like the pitching discussion - you need to find someone you're comfortable with. There's quite a few now in NH - just have to look.

I suggest going to the showcase league tryouts at SNHU this weekend (there's another thread in here). They have a development division as well.
Thanks for the bump on the Showcase League stuff...

You know who has great winter stuff in NH that goes unnoticed and unrecognized often SNHU. Granite State Baseball Association also posts a winter calendar with everything going on in the winter as far as camps and clinics but if SNHU does like the did the past two winters you can't beat that.
Thanks guys.

Also, we are almost ready to move into our new facility. Bigger weight room, more cages, ability to do some legit fielding work, throwing programs, 30 yard sprinting lane. Good things coming! We are really excited to be able to do infield and throwing work inside all winter. I grew up in Hudson, went to college in VT... I know what its like trying to train up here through the winter months.
