Son has a favorite school which fits academically and has shown interest but not over the top about him. Another program (higly respected and a good academic fit)has begun to show serious interest. Both schools are DIII, so the talk is not about athletic money, more about slotting and support for academic $. If school 2 makes an offer which is hard to turn down, is it proper to inform shcool 1 that this type of discussion is going on? Does it seem too much like a bargaining ploy? I'm sure son will do fine in either place, but right now he thinks school 1 is leading by a nose. If they made an offer I believe he would quit looking and head there. I just don't want him to come off as a horse trader with coaches he respects. Any thoughts and/or experiences would be appreciated.

Eagle, you sound a bit like my son and I about all of this, i.e. talking to another coach/college when you already feel good about one that has shown sincere interest in your son.

We too have a couple of D3's that are fantastic programs with coach's that have high integrity and character that have already offered my son the opportunity to play for them. Meanwhile, a NAIA has come along and blew them away...i.e. location, playing time, potential, etc. I have felt that until a solid, bonafide offer is on the table and accepted by my son then I don't see where any talks with the other schools need to end. I personally think telling them could push them away, and really, why do that when you don't need to at this time? With D3's it's not as though they have money on the table and can take it off. Take your time and keep all offers open and alive.

Believe it or not the coach's are doing the same with prospects...trying to figure out which one's will show up or not, etc.

BTW....I also personally see nothing wrong with bargaining ploy's in this recruiting business. Parents use it to get the best possible college and scenario for their son's and their future. To me, bargaining ploy is nothing more than selling. Cool
