For my freshman, sofemore, and junior years i was the number one catcher for my high school team. I caught every game. I was the number 4 pitcher and only got about 10 innings. But this upcoming year i will be the number one pitcher for my Senior year. But the problem is my coaches didnt prepare for losing the other 3 pitchers. There are acouple underclassmen that have some catching experience but not much. I just was wondering if you all can give me advice on how to help train a new catcher without coming off as arigant. We are starting to play travel ball, so this will give me a chance to throw to differnt catchers.

My personal opinion- everything a catcher does (blocking, throwing, covering bunts, popups, etc) starts with a solid, athletic stance. Sometimes a younger catcher is going to struggle with older pitchers who throw harder and have better breaking pitches than anyone they've ever caught. The best way to figure that part out is throw them into the fire. They're only going to improve their ability to catch better pitchers by catching better pitching. Just my thoughts
I agree with Emanski. If they know the fundamentals of catching and have a reasonable amount of strength, then they will pick it up.

You can ask the new catchers to catch bullpen sessions for you (or a lesson, if you take pitching lessons) prior to the season starting. My son is a catcher, and has volunteered to catch his pitchers outside of scheduled practice, in either their pitching lessons or bullpen sessions.

I would be wary of giving them catching advice - let them work it out.
