I can tell that Howard CC has three different branches. Just one main one, Big Spring TX. Coach Britt Smith has been around and followed some big time coachs. Coach Smith has had some great experience under some good coaches. He coached alongside Coach Todd Howey. I used to play against Coach Howey's team in Howard Payne University in TX and in West TX. I would have loved to learn from Coach Howey. Plus, Coach Britt Smith was at LCU and Tx Tech. We played against both those teams. I always knew that the coaches knew their stuff. The coaching staff was under Coach Hayes and LCU has always been a top 25 ranked team. They are winners and well respected. It is not about the size of the school as much as it is about the kind of coach you have that can help you reach your goals. Hope that helps.

My son played ball at Howard last spring under Coach Smith. He is a good coach and a good person. The school is as good as most JUCO's - your son will get his basics. The baseball program is competitive in its conference and made it to the NJCAA region 5 tournament - where they eliminated Midland College (#12 in the nation). They play some excellent teams, New Mexico JC and Midland College are in their conference. The baseball facilities are pretty nice. Coach Smith is genuinely interested in helping his players become better ballplayers - if they are willing to work. Big Spring is a smallish West Texas town, so that may take some adjustment. But it is a nice place. The bottom line is your son can get a good education and a good baseball experience at Howard.
