How do college coaches feel about a prospect's high school coach contacting them unsolicited? My son has had some interest expressed in him by his top choice for college, and his high school coach asked him how it's going. My son told him that at the last camp, the coach shook his hand, winked at him, and told him "we will be in touch with you." The last day of the a prospect camp at the school, our flight out of the airport was delayed. While we were in the air, the coach left my son a voicemail saying he was going on vacation, so no need to return his call, but they could speak after he gets back in a week. My son sent a reply email when we got home, and has since also left a vm, but hasn't heard anything back yet. The head coach told the parents that they are a late signing program, so I told my son not to worry.

Questions:
1) Should my son lay low now with the contact so as to not "over-contact" the coach?
2) The HS coach wants to call the college coach to talk. How do college coaches feel about this? (Note: we did not ask the coach to do this, he really want to help my son attend his top choice college).
3) Would the college coach see a call by the HS coach as too much contact regarding my kid?
4) As with all things in life, situations can change. Should we be directly asking the coach if he still has interested in my son? Or wait for November and find out one way or another if they found a better prospect? BTW, he has not been directly offered anything by the school yet, but was given a personal tour of the campus (the day before the prospect event) by the coach....

Such an emotional rollercoaster, this recruiting thing is!!! :-)

Thanks in advance for any advice....

Hey, congratulations on your son being wanted by his top choice, not many get to experience that, it must be awesome!

Anyway, contact by any coach, HS, Travel, to the college coach is very much within the bounds of proper communication. It's how things get done. College coaches get many recruits from heads ups and talks with HS and travel coaches and pro scouts.

The anxiety you feel is normal. It hampers our perspective about doing too much or too little.

My advice is, let the coach make contact...take it from there.

Best of luck to all of you!
