My son plays on a travel team, which shares it's nickname with a local HS. Recently, an assistant coach of the HS team has exerted an effort to "control" the travel ball teams, which he characterizes as a "feeder program" for the HS. He has strongly implied that incoming students to the HS who have played in the feeder program would receive preferential treatment in being selected to the HS team. Further, he has threatened to kick teams out of the program who include players who would attend other rival HS. This same coach has provided the HS booster club tax id number to some of these travel teams for the purpose of their own fundraising. The kids who play on these teams are 10, 11, 12 and 13 -- teams exist at all age levels. My question, probably naive, is aren't there HS regulations -- CIF or something -- that prevent this kind of strong-arm tactics with parents of kids who just want to play baseball? More experienced parents, please advise.
