Would like to know where to find the ruling on this.
In our game, the visiting Pitcher went 5 innings was pulled and went to bench. Game went 7 innings and was tied and called because of darkness. Game was continued 2 days later, but visiting team wanted to re enter the starting pitcher. My understanding was since the pitcher left the game instead of going to another position he is not allowed to return as the pitcher.
Is this spelled out in the NHSF rule book somewhere?

The NFHS high school pitching rules are quite flexible. Any of the starting players, including the pitcher may leave the game and return once as long as they keep the same position in the batting order. In addition any pitcher may be switched with another defensive player only once per inning, if desired, providing the substitute pitcher pitches to at least one batter until the batter either reaches base or is put out or a third out occurs. The substitution, pitching and charged conferences rules still have to be followed. The rule is spelled out in 3.1.2 and 3.1.3 of the NFHS rule book. In the case you described the starting pitcher may return to the pitching role in the suspended game as long as he has left the game and returned only once.
