State:  KY

Date of school's first game:  March 3

Playoffs end:  June 9

Total regular season Varsity Games (I added this category so we can compare schedules):  34 plus spring break tournament

8 seniors last year, 2 went on to Div 3 schools but 1 has already been let go because of grades. This is still a fairly young program and they haven't had D1 players yet. They've had several D2, D3, and NAIA players.

State:  California

Tryouts start next wek...

Season starts Feb 13th and ends May 26th — 30 regular season games, 7 Playoff games

How many seniors on last year's team and how many went on to play at next level?  16 seniors — Next level= 10.  4 D1s (UCLA, St Marys, Fresno State) 3 D3s (Chapman, WashU, Grinnell) and 3 at local JC

This season team composition?  TBD — but should have at least 13 Seniors — 3 are committed to D1 programs (Baylor, Santa Clara, Fresno)

Tryouts next week.  Scrimmages start Feb 5.  Season starts Feb 22 with a tournament, play tournaments the next two weeks.  District starts March 13.

There is a baseball class at school.  If not in football, baseball players are in baseball class.  Coach has already evaluated kids in class.  Gives them a written expectation of their role in the program and then speaks to them 1:1.  Son was told he was on varsity, will compete for innings on mound, needs to continue to develop his bat.  Son was on JV last season, moved to varsity as a pitcher for the playoffs.  Got his first varsity inning in the third round of the playoffs.

District has eight teams, play each team twice.  Last year son's school was in a three way tie for first at 12-2.  Top three teams split their series, then beat all the other teams in district.  Other two teams in first were ranked #4, #5 in state pre-season poll, son's school was not in top 50. Other two teams lost first round of playoffs, son's school advanced to fourth round and lost to eventual state champions.  It was cinderella in nature.

1,2,3 hitters were seniors and moved on.  One to a D1 (Pittsburg of all places), one drafted (30ish round), one to a JC.  Team relied on three Jr pitchers, so all three are back.  In Texas, we only play two games a week during district play, so they got by with only three.

This year's team will have SR at C, SS, 1B, LF, JR in CF, Soph's in the other three positions.

Really looking forward to this year!

California (Southern Section)

First scrimmage 2/21.  Regular season 2/27 - 5/10 (29 games).

Playoffs begin the followin week (mid-May)and run 3-4 weeks, 6-7 games into early June.

We are waiting for 10 winter sports athletes that won't join us/try out until approx Feb 12 or later depending on their playoff status and results.  We had over 50 kids try out for about 30 spots across two squads, V & JV.  The transition when winter sports athletes show up will be difficult.

Last year - 2 sr's, both playing in college.

This year - 9 +/- seniors.  Approx 4 or 5 will play in college.  2 or 3 more have the talent but won't, due to either academic/career focus, injury or other interest (and I haven't even seen what she looks like yet).

will not have enough innings for all of the arms.

Old school, that can be good as well as bad. But better too few innings than having a saddle on your back, jmo.

agreed, have 3 D1 commits will pitch vast majority of league innings. The others will get most nonleague and scrimmage time after league season gets moving I expect. I think they will have to get extended bullpens weekly to stay strong during the league season.
