Double-A baseball is quite a fun experience especially at a Richmond Flying Squirrels game.   The SF Giant organization has caught lightening in a bottle at every Squirrels home game, and the fans are really into the craziness.  It is known as "Funville", and it doesn't disappoint.  It gets even more exciting when you're cheering for a minor league player and the a player's parents are sitting next to you as was the case Friday night when RipkenFan and I, and our much better halves got together.   The Richmond Flying Squirrels 2nd baseman was our very own RipkenFan's son.  Hitting leadoff and MIF, you can see why the SF organization is high on this "kid".  Plays the game like it should be played and a great attitude that is contagious.   You know that feeling when you see a "real ballplayer"?  That is what I saw Friday night.   Mom and Dad were cool and collected during most of the game until it got a little tight in the later innings.   But the Richmond Flying Squirrels came back in the bottom of the 9th with a walk off single to extend the homestand to 4 wins out of 5.   Funville it was Friday night at the Diamond.

Thanks for the special invite Ripkenfan...great company and great seats!

Ha! My daughter, her husband and his father were at the game. I know because S-I-L posted a picture of my daughter trying on the Luchador mask that the Ardillas Voladoras gave out to the fans.

Two years ago, my son was with Albuquerque and I was first introduced to the Copa de la Diversión. Being a traditionalist, I was a little skeptical of the gimmick. But his team, Mariachis de Nuevo México fascinated me and I really liked the promotion. The Isotopes (the team's usual name since they were the Dukes years ago) have such fun and entertaining  activities and sellout crowds that they have won at least twice the MiLB end of season trophy in this category.

Some of the team names are crazy. My favorite is the Flying Chanclas de San Antonio. I had to look that one up and later checked with a co-worker who told me that is a real thing. LOL!
