This is something that you see or hear about in men's adult baseball leagues but, in affiliated baseball?
36yrs old and coming off his 2nd TJ surgery I just don't see the reasoning behind the Braves to put him back in a uniform as a player.

I don't know the reasoning, but it sounds like a fun opportunity. He gets to coach and mentor - which is his future plan, while at the same time figuring out if he has the stuff to continue playing.
Sounds like a blast really.

Moylan has long-term aspirations to coach, but for now he will maintain his dream to return to the Majors
Worst case scenario he gets his foot in the door coaching. Best case scenario his velocity returns and he gets another shot.

It's pretty easy to see why.....publicity. Got this story on the wire, and it will put butts in MiLB seats to see a throwback to the old player/coach days. He may have a legitimate shot to be a long term coach and a longer shot to actually make it as a player, but for the Braves, it's a pretty savvy move. Certainly a win-win for both with the only risk being another injury/surgery to a guy who, otherwise, has no future whatsoever as a legitimate playing prospect.

This is awesome!
I am not understanding why you don't understand. Players like this make great mentors for young players and also add a lot to the clubhouse. As a former Braves player, he knows what is expected and can pass this down to the young kids who REALLY need mentoring. And I agree, the fans love former players as managers.
It's a job and an invite to next years ML spring training. Thats a dream job for many.
As a releiver, he has a W-L record of 21/9 in 8 years and a respectable ERA.
