I have gotten some responses from TRHit about some other topics regarding when I should start taking steps in trying to get noticed, and I was wondering if what he said at other times applied here, too.

I want to start showcasing, but I really don't know if it's worth it yet. I am only a JV player, but our varsity has come in 4th and 8th in the state in 02 and 03 respectively, so I'm not on a JV team of a bad school. I pitch and cruise around 80, I'm 15 (sophomore), have a great GPA at a school ranked 63rd academically in the nation, and I can hit also. The one thing I notice though, is that every application for a showcase requires that a player be on varsity. Are there ever extenuating circumstances? I dont want to fill out applications and waste my time because I am not on varsity. I have an AAU coach that the showcases could contact, along with my JV coach, but I don't know if I will be taken seriously if I am not on varsity; hence my asking these questions.

I remember TRHit saying, with reason, that I should hold back on contacting colleges until I am on varsity, and I am wondering if the same applies with showcases. It just seems to me that there are some varsitys that are awful, and could be beaten by our schools frosh team, but those players can showcase, while other possibly better players who arent on varsity of their school can't. Please correct me if I'm wrong, and thanks for your help.

One last thing...I'm in NJ, and I notice that most showcases are down south or out west, does anyone know of some good ones up by me? I know there was one in the nyack bubble, but from what I saw there were very few players there, and i dont see it listed as a showcase location for any company. Thanks.

Since I personally know BeenthereIL, and agree with him in part, I think you need to look at several options. BeenthereIL is giving good advice, but, how do you feel about yourself? Are you an aggressive, out-going type of person, or are you shy, and can be intimdated?

BeenthereIL and I agree that if you want to know right-away, and not spend to much money in the process, go to a big showcase, College Select, Perfect Game, Midwest Prospects, or Team One.

My son is an 06, and last year went to a pro evaluation combine, and a college camp in the fall. This year he went to the same college's
'pitchers/catchers' camp in January, and right know is signed-up for a showcase in Texas. Sure, we will spend more money doing it this way, but we are also visiting college campuses as well. He is an aggressive player with lots of confidence, and is not intimidated at all. He also still needs to develop physically.

His sophomore team is carrying 25 players, and he will share catching duties with another player. The other field positions will rotate 3 players in-and-out every game. There are 900 kids in his sophomore class. Our varsity will carry 30 players, which also includes the juniors, who were told they will probably not play this season.

The point I'm trying to make is, that you should go and get evaluated at a 'top notch' showcase, play travel ball, go to a camp, work hard, don't expect your high school coach to help very much for college, and don't worry about high school stats.
