I just starting coaching high school baseball last year after a couple of years of coaching college ball at Parkland CC. I was just wondering if anyone new the rules when kids are a lot to start throwing, hitting, and so on.
I know that the starting date is Feb. 27 but I also heard so many different things, kids can do before then.
Ex.
1.They can meet together and throw and hit with a coach present, but the coach can not instruct.
2. They are not allowed to do anything until Feb. 27.
3. They can meet in an open gym setting and do what they want.
4. They can do these things if its part of conditioning.
If anyone can help clarify these things for me, I would greatly appreciate it.
Or if anyone knows who I need to talk to besides my AD to help find these things out, that would be great.
Why is he calling me Meat? I'm the one driving a Porsche.

bull...Lineshot is giving you good advice.

Spend an afternoon reading the baseball rulebook that the IHSA uses;

Spend an afternoon reading the rules and examples on the IHSA website for sports and baseball; and,

Ask questions on this forum and other forums and contact some coaches from around the state, i.e., CoachB from Triad; the coach at OakPark and River Forest (Chris Ledbetter)...forget his screen name...the Coach of the SI Bullets summer team.

Talk to umpires after or before a game during the season...ask a single question re rules interpretation on the field...sliding into second base on a double play situation, for example...Some interpret it as trying to hurt the infielder while others interpret it as "if you slide past the base at all, automatic out"...

Welcome to Illinois baseball and the site.
