I am going to blame the new format on the reason I opened this post.  Normally I wouldn't post a comment on this.  Congrats, I guess?  If your question is actually a question, my answer would be "no".  Based on the posted line, it appears this was a serious mismatch against a much weaker TEAM - not just a pitching mis-match.  This is not a game I would hang my hat on or even give one moment of thought to if I were the P.  Now, if he worked all his pitches and hit all his spots, there is something to be happy about.

Last time I saw Weaver was about 18 months ago.  He was low 80's with good command of three pitches.  Assuming his MPH is up since then, he should be pretty good at this point.

I don't care if you're playing the Little Sisters of the Poor, someone ought to be able to make contact.  So yes, I do think it's impressive.  Makes me wonder just what kind of stuff the kid has developed.

Weaver and Holder. Cotman, Kelly (3) and Kelly, Jones (3). W — Weaver (1-0). L — Cotman (0-1).

Highlights: Dillon Weaver (A) perfect game, 15 Ks, 4-5, 3B.

not 1 ball put in play

I don't know anything about Amelia, the young Mr. Weaver or Charles City...but to pitch five innings and not have a ball put in play is a tremendous feat.  You can watch baseball for many, many years and not see something of this magnitude.  Congrats to that young man!

Yes, congratulations.  I remember when Bum, Jr. did it, setting a state-record with 21 strikeouts in a seven inning game in h.s. there was not even a write-up the next day in the local paper.  It hurts.  Nothing but admiration is due this young man.  This game is supposed to be fun and we should always pause to "hang our hat" whenever we can.

Really…You don't think that 6 errors might just be a “TELL" about the competition? How many of the 18 hits should have been fielded? Doesn't mean the young man cannot pitch by any stretch… But reminds me of the "Longest Yard"...

All right. Relatively simple. You need a tune-up game (Paul Crewe).

A tune-up game (the Warden)?

-

Yeah. In college, we'd start every season against Appalachian State or some slack Division II team. Kick the living (expletive) out of them. Get their confidence up (Paul Crewe).

It is obvious the competition played badly. But I doubt they swung at every pitch. You still have to fill the strike zone to throw a perfect game. Then to do that without some one hitting a fair ball is amazing. Against that team on that day, the kid was perfect. Perfection of any kind is very rare.

Someone needs to track Charles City to see if they are really as bad as that game made them look. Wow, their fans must be having nightmares!

When you play like that, you don't have to worry about how your fans feel, because you have none.

Unfortunately, Charles City County's demographics tilt towards a lot of factors that tend to correlate to poor baseball performance in our current era.  Heavily African-American (the dearth of interest in baseball in the African-American community these days is well documented), heavily poor, and also one of the worst localities in our state in terms of academic performance.  Not the kind of kids you see paying private baseball facilities for lessons from age 8 on up.  I doubt if any of them have ever played for a travel team or had exposure to knowledgeable instruction.
