***I'm not sure if this belongs in this Throwing section or in the Catching section, so feel free to move it if it belongs somewhere else***

I'm currently a 2013 catcher, about 5'8" 145-150 lbs. My last recorded pop times were about 2.1-2.15. However, I know I can do much better than this, and would like some advice on how to improve my arm strength. My transfer from glove to release is quite quick, as I probably only throw about low 70's (not sure, haven't been clocked). Also, if for some reason I end up not projecting at catcher later, arm strength would be a valuable tool anywhere.
So, if anyone has advice on what has worked for them, or just good programs/exercises to improve my throwing velocity I would be very glad to hear them. I already lift weights a bit, and have done sports conditioning withTwist , so I am open to strength training and weights as well.

If you really wanna lower your pop time, work on the quickness of your feet and your release. I am pretty sure I read this on here but I do not remember exactly where. To take .1 off your pop time, you need to increase your velocity by 5MPH. It is much easier to take lower your pop time through proper mechanics than it is through arm strength.

With that being said, just play loads of long toss. Continue to work on your core strength by using medicine balls and other twisting movements. Also, work on your legs a lot. Another thing I find important is the way you grip the ball. Try to get the four seam grip on every throw. Think about it when playing catch, do you always try to get a four seam grip as quickly as possible all the time every time?? If not, do it. Be conscious of how you practice. By getting the four seam grip, your throws will carry a lot better. You want your throws to carry through the bag, not die at it. Good luck
Chopstix,
Welcome aboard.

You just got some great advice. Only thing I'd add is work on your transfer and watch your arm motion/throwing mechanics. Basically I don't like seeing the ball ever go lower than where you caught...don't circle or full windup like a pitcher in other words.

Stay tuned..there are some guys on here with excellent catching websites.

Good luck..you're playing the most fun position in baseball.
