Does anyone have any idea about this program? Matt Middleton who coaches the Midland Redskins (won Connie Mack World Series this year) is a new assistant coach up there. Anyone know if they are fully funded?
We host several tournaments at IU and the new staff, headed by Tracy Smith, has really started turning the program around! These guys know what they are doing and on top of that, I believe they have worked out details on an entirely new complex! They are young but they are now picking up a lot of the top talent in the area.
I don't think they are fully funded. The IU sports programs have been pretty broke over the years from years and years of mismanagement. One athletic director from a few years ago overspent and overspent and broke the bank and they are still paying for his mistakes and I believe he is still getting paid!!!!??? IU's Tracy Smith is probably on a tight shoe-string budget unfortunetly. Obviously, if he IS fully funded, he still gets his 11.7 but other parts of the program suffer (facilities, recruiting budget, etc.)
The facilities will be used in '09 for the first time. The new facility is a bit undersized compared to a SEC school and lacks seating capacity for any big tournaments, however, it's a huge upgrade from lowly SEMBOWER field.....make no mistake. The new stadium can only seat 2000 people which (as an example), Kentucky can seat 3000, which is the lowest in the SEC I think.
The facilities will not be ready in 2009 I know that. I don't even think ground has been broken for a new facility so I'm not sure when this is taking place. I know our IU tournaments this summer will be at Sembower for sure!
correct. facilities are way behind. plans were drawn up and then the Kelvin Sampson thing hit and they had to come up with money to pay him (a donor helped) and also come up with money for a new coach all the sudden and then the AD resigned effective 01/09. So turmoil has dampened the IU baseball program most likely. Can't say for sure. Perhaps Tracy Smith can reply and clear this up.
