During a game the other night there are kids on 2nd and 3rd 1 out... batter pops up to the pitchers mound area....PU immediately calls IFF....pitcher misses the ball, the batter is 1/4 the way up the line...pitcher hearing IFF called makes no attempt to throw to first......other coach rightfully argues thee is no IFF, PU changes his call to NO IFF, batter runner safe at first.....besides being a non-rule knowing ump, is this considered Umnpire Interference or is it the right call just to say, oops my bad.......at the highschool or above level? (Asking that because it happened in a LL JR's game but got me thinking)

It's not umpire interference. That specifically applies to an umpire hindering the catcher's throw or to an umpire being hit by a batted ball.
This situation falls under the responsibility of the Umpire in Chief to rectify any situation in which an umpire's decision that was reversed has placed either team at a disadvantage (10-2-3j).
How would I rectify this situation?
Well, the batter clearly did nothing to merit being put out. He put the ball in play and reached first base. And the defensive team would surely feel aggrieved if they got burned for relying on the umpire's erroneous IFF call. Someone is going to have a valid complaint.
If I had to clean this mess up, I'd let the runner stay at first. And I'd explain it to the defensive team's coach with a clean version of the "Animal House" line, "You ****ed up. You trusted us." The defense had two chances to retire this batter, but instead relied on a call they should have known was erroneous. The batter was smart enough to ignore the bad call and keep playing. The defense should have done the same thing.
Then I would record the protest from the defensive team and stand by for heavy rolls when my assignor found out how bad I had kicked it.
Yeah, I let the play stand and did not argue much. The tone, and experience of the PU, had already been set earlier in the game when I pointed out the opposing pitcher continuously balking and asked him to watch. After he talked to the other coach he came back and told me "That is the kids style, i know it's the rule, but, I just wanted to let you know that I am not going to call the balk".....so
But just wondered how that would be handled at a higher level. Thanks
You should have let the umpire know that it's your pitchers style to never throw a ball, anything he ever throws is for a strike. Oh, and when your batters swing and miss, it's not a strike... Just their style.
LOL, I tried that argument when my pitcher got a balk called for not coming to a stop....didn't work...though my parents got a good laugh out of it.
At least you had a sense of humor about it.
Yep, no other way to approach it at that point..it was quite clear his Umpire Card carried more weight than his knowledge of the rules....great lesson for the kids to only worry about what they can control, not what they can't
HS rules are clear that its the situation and not the call that determines the infield fly so the play would be allowed to stand.

good lesson for the players.......also good lesson is that they know that they also have to know the situation.......IFF, 3rd strike not caught, ball/strike counts...smart alert teams get outs in those sitations when the less than qualified umpire boots the intial call......
