Infield Overthrow Base Award

Runners on first and second. GB to 3rdbaseman who fields the ball and steps on third - throw to first is wild high. Assuming runner from first had obtained second before throw to first - is runner awarded home or third? Explanation from umpire was 2 bases from TOP bc it was the first throw. I thought TOT bc first play was the force out. Thx

I'd treat the force as the first play. Just like a tag attempt. If he took one step and then decided to throw, then it would be TOP. But, since he completed the attempt, I have it at TOT and put the runner on HP.

I may be wrong about this being the same as a tag attempt but that is how I would treat it for now unless convinced otherwise.
