My #2 son age 15 was hit by a pitch on the top of his hand during batting practice. Finished practice came home and then told me about it. His hand was swollen but not to bad. Next morning was swollen alot more. We went to the dr. had xrays, no fractures. Now 3 weeks later, swelling is still there. He says he has no pain and that it doesn't bother him at all. What I don't understand is why it doesn't seem to be returning to normal size. Should we see the dr. again?

This happened to my catcher last year. The problem with x-rays is that sometimes, the swelling inhibits a good "picture" of the area. On the second visit, and with an MRI, a fracture was apparent. This MRI made me glad that I didn't rush him back into playing when I was initially told that everything was fine.

I hit a foul ball off of my leg last summer and the swelling is still there. No pain, nothing. I must have hit a nerve or something and it just blew up. When it first happened I compared it to a baseball and the ball was smaller than the lump on my leg, no joke! I still have swelling and bruising, just try to ignore the image. I don't know what you should do as far as doctor or not, but for comfort, it happens and im fine now. So goodluck!
