Sorry for posting this ? here, but felt this to be the best place for a qulified response from someone who may have had the same injury.

My 09 periodically has swelling and pain of the soft tissue between the thumb and index fingers of his top hand. Any thoughts on why this occurs and ideas for prevention are appreciated.

I have the same thing and have been to a few hand specialists over the years and have had a few MRI's. All of the images came back negative and they said that the whole "web space" was over developed muscle tissue that was inflammed. The only thing they could do for me was say to rest it and take some anti-inflams. The past two seasons I have used a direct protect and been completley fine. It's still there but doesn't hurt at all. It takes a little while to get used to but eventually you get to the point where you can't hit without it. Another option is to foam the part of the bat that is in contact with that part of the thumb, webspace. I did this before using the DP and it helped a little bit.
