My son has recovered from a knee injury and he is back to playing - was able to play last 7 games of season. His throwing and batting are fine as he was cleared to do these a while ago. However his running/sprinting was last to be cleared and at this time is considerably slower than he was at this time last year. He has a chance to go to a college HS prospect camp in 3 weeks at one of his choices but not sure if this is a good idea or not.  He is a sophomore catcher and I know that speed is not a premium at that position  - still not sure its a good idea to go or not. He is on a strength/speed conditioning program but it just started and I don't expect him to see results in the next 3 weeks.

I am leaning toward not attending and having him play all summer (on club travel team) and working hard on his speed throughout summer. He is scheduled to go to a showcase at end of July. Any thoughts on this appreciated.

I am surprised you have not received a response from more knowledgeable posters.  i have read numerous posts on this website over the last few years addressing the issue of whether to go to showcase if injured, and the overwhelming response has been not to do it.  You also have plenty of time since your son is a 2015, so wait until he is healthy.  There are plenty of showcase opportunities in late summer and fall.

You are thinking correctly in not attending at this time. Go when he can make his best effort. This is what you what colleges to see.

My two cents....I'd suggest your son call the coach to get his input and reschedule the event when he is healthy.  This does two things.  First, it initiates or continues a dialogue or relationship with a coach for a school he has interest in.   He is showing the coach he is a mature young man that can handle his business.   Second, he can get the event rescheduled through the coach when he is healthy.   Good luck!
