There is a game within the game. All Major League players, coaches understand this game.

The ability for the individual player to understand, to self motivate and to educate himself will determine his future success.

It is very important to focus on the current situation, the game today, the opposing pitcher today, the opposing hitter, fielder.

Watch the pitcher warm up in the bullpen.
What pitches can he control today. Take away pitches, reduce the pitcher to ONE pitch.

Questions:
1. Do you stand next to the plate in the bullpen when your pitcher warms up?
2. Can you read the bat?
3. What is "creativity"in baseball?
4. How can I "get the edge"?

When our American teams play 16 games in 16 days in Australia, our players learn the answers.

Bob, I read a post that talked about hitting in showcases, could you elaborate. My son has only been to one. They said he looked uncomfortable with wood. I think he spent to much time trying to hit to the right side(RH Hitter) and getting a good pitch to hit- in one of the games the count was 8-2. What sort of plan should he concentrate on for the summer showcases, Thanx Wavehog
Wavehog;

To develop a plan for any showcase.
1. What age is your son? Where does your son hit in the batting order?
2. Practice in game conditions with wood bats. BP with wood is not good enough.
3. During a tryout or showcase the scouts and coaches are looking for "bat speed". Let the bat "rip" through the strike zone. Look for the fast ball. The radar guns measure the pitchers velocity, so you know that a pitcher will throw a fast ball to impress.

Please have success and enjoy the game.

Wavehog;

Several additional suggestions to increase bat speed and quickness.

1. Squeeze daily a rubber ball.
2. Swing daily a 35 oz wood bat 33.5 "
3. Use the "high tee"drill
4. Listen for the sound of the ball impacting the baseball. It is a special sound.
5. Use Ichiro's rapid soft toss drill.
6. Most important, be loose. There are one billion Chinese who don't care if you swing and miss.

I am not familiar with Ichiros drill- what is it? Wavehog
Wavehog;

Ichiro drill is for the "soft toss" server to toss a quickly as possible to the hitter.

The hitter swings and hit the toss and immediately sets up for the next toss.

Five swings and rest, then again five swings.
This develops hand and eye quickness without thinking of "how do I look".
On our web site we will discuss hitting drills.
