does anybody have any info on Mike Toomey, as an instructor. I know he is a scout but I want to know about his abilities as an instructor for high school aged kid.
Top instructor in the area, with the knowledge and passion that cannot be equaled.Teaching skills are unequaled to others in the area.Mid- Atlantic scouts hall of fame,30 yrs in professional baseball, runs K.C Royals academy in the dominican republic.Teacher, scout, experience, passion for the game.I think he could help your younster.
Are you kidding me? Toomey is a MLB level instructor. He is well known as a top scout/instructor in the area and Latin America. Toomey has over 28 years of pro baseball experience and has shared his knowledge with youth in the area. Furthermore, he is bilingual (Spanish/English)and has taken his expertise to Dominican Republic, Colombia, and Nicaragua where he has offered many youth clinics.
Mike Toomey seems like a guy who would be great with high school aged kids. While my son never worked with him, we have met Mike thru Southern Maryland camp and he seems to really connect with teenagers. Granted, most of what I have experienced is his speaking to the group before the morning sessions begin. So, I guess while I haven't seen his baseball skills at work. I will just assume he wouldn't be with the KC Royals if he didn't know his baseball.
Overall, Toomey seems like a personable guy who is passionate about his baseball. I wouldn't hesitate at all about my son working with Mike Toomey.
I have first-hand experience working with Mike Toomey. I brought a young man who was a Sr. at Quince Orchard HS to Mike for hitting instruction last winter. Mike worked with this young man over the course of several sessions. What I liked about Mike was that he related very well to the player, did not try to make one-size-fits-all changes in the swing, and kept things simple: start with an athletic stance, transfer the weight, and remember -"short to it, long through it". The drills and routine that Mike used were fundamentally sound and easy for the player to put into practice on his own. The result: after having a so-so Jr. year, this young man had .466 batting avg., four HRs, 20+ RBIs in leading QO to the State Finals and earning Honorable Mention All-Met. Obviously this success is not all attribultable to Mike Toomey's work, but the hard work and CONFIDENCE that was developed over the winter clearly paid off. I would unquestionably recommend Mike Toomey as a hitting instructor for young players at any age/skill level.
To all intersted in working with Mike Toomey? My son worked with Mike for 2 years and his ability to communicate the hitting approach to my son paid major dividends. I have heard that Mike Toomey will be at the new baseball facility in Bowie if anyone knows how to get in touch with him please let me know..Thanks!
