Intentional Walk

In tonights game one of the coaches kept calling time when he wainted to intenionally walk a batter. I thought he ball had to be in play to issue an intentional walk and the ball remained in play until the BR reached first base. Thanks for your clarification.

If the pitcher throws 4 intentional balls, the ball is live. There's no reason to do that in FED however, since the catcher or coach can request an intentional base on balls. In that case, the ball is dead when the award is made.
