Last night I did a legion game. The batter swung on a third strike and the ball hit the dirt and went off the catcher and the runner while coming out of the batters box kick the ball but it was not intentionly. He was safe at first and I told the coach that

B1 swings and misses a pitch in the dirt for strike 3. B1 takes off for first and the catch deflects the ball into him. B1 is safe at first.

The ruling says the ball is live and in play. When a batter runner has left the batter's box and is hit from behind by a ball deflected by the cather, he should not be called out for interference.

however in this case the ball deflected off the catcher and as the batter came out of the box it hit off of his feet and went about 10 feet.

I called him safe.

Now when i went into the rule book there was not comment on this play except for interring on the cather on making a play on the ball. I went to the college rule book and as plain as day the runner can kick a ball as long as it is not intentionly.

However, we play high school rules.

DID I MAKE THE RIGHT CALL???????
Thanks, Jay
