Attended a few games this season and noticed players from Puerto Rico, Mexico, etc... on the rosters of private DII schools. One player told me that their previous recruting cooordinator used to make a trip to Puerto Rico every year to seek out players.

I have also noticed latin players on the roster of a DIII school.

So, how are these privates funding these players on their roster? It would seem cost prohibitive for a player from another country to come and play unless they were having a significant portion of tuition, room and board, and fees covered.

Just wondering out loud....

I look at it a couple of ways. If a team brings in a Latin player, they probably have asignificant investment in that player. Maybe, maybe not. Who knows, but let's assume they do. If so, that player will get significantly more opportunities to prove themselves.

Also, players who are coming from out of the country may have had many more hours in a day to work on baseball and develop their skills.

A player I saw recently at the DII level was an excellent player and from Puerto Rico. Will probably be considered at the next level.

I would take what the coach is telling you with a grain of salt.  4 kids getting drafted out of a D2 in the same year is virtually unheard of.  And I don't think the school in question has had a player drafted since 2007.

Not sure about them having all kinds of money either.  Last I heard they only had 4.5 scholarships to divvy up.  If a school with limited scholarships is making a big offer to a kid I'd be very careful to read the fine print to make sure they are not including things other than athletic money in that "offer."
