None of us know why the letter was sent.
The best possible strategy here is to use the letter as an opportunity. An opportunity to contact them and find out for SURE what it means.
Some will say e-mail but I like phone conversations better because you can hear things (intonation, voice inflections, pauses, etc.) that might give clues that wouldn't show up in e-mail.
Sample phone call delivered by player or parent...
"Hi Coach, I was calling because I received a recruitment letter from your school. Can you tell me why you sent me the letter?"
Response 1 from Coach:
"Hello. We sent the letter because we saw you play in XX tournament and you turned our heads frankly. You showed nice speed in center field and a quick bat. We would love for you to come to our camp so we could have a second look. We think there could be a place for you in our program in the future"
Response 2 from Coach:
"Hello. To be honest, we got your name from a tournament roster at a PG event you attended. We heard good things about your team and thought you might be interested in attending one of our camps. If you perform well at the camp, we might be interested in recruiting you."
Do you see what I mean? The letter provides an opportunity. None of us here can realize that for you. Take this "bull" by the horns and find out the true answer.
