EH This is where it always gets out of hand. Not once did I say I wanted to speak to the coach. My very first words in the original post are "Is it okay for a PLAYER to speak to a coach. It is up to my son to do so if he choses. We just wanted advice on whether it was correct to do so.
From another one of my posts on this topic "When I have seen these types of questions before it turns into things such as the parents shouldn't say anything. Exactly what I said would happen has happened. I'm asking the question because I want to know how to advise him and so many times I've seen parents attacked for asking a question. Isn't that what this site is about? Information and to be able to call on the experiences of its members?
I believe he has decided to follow what trojanskipper said and keep quiet for now. Even though it is eating him up because he knows he should be on a higher level and isn't. Many older kids have asked him why are you on freshman? So they see the talent why not the coaches?
Sorry bb1,
I wasn't talking to you specifically.
Just in general terms.
That the parent in general should not need to talk to the coach.
Let the player talk to them.

Other's( Parent's ) think the coach owe's them some sort of explaination for there actions on the field concerning there player.
I don't believe they owe the player or the parent anything.
Play ball, That's were it's at. On the field.

bb1,
It happened to my boy to.
He could of played Varsity Easily.
Played Freshman.
Could of played varsity as a sophmore, played JV.
It has nothing to do with weather your boy has talent.
Does your boy want to play?
Play were the coach puts you.
And do it with a smile on your face.

I was upset and thought he could of played up.
From this point on its always going to be the next level that we think they could play up.
That's baseball.

EH Sounds like your son went through the same thing and that's the kind of knowledge I need. My son's not ready for varsity but JV. Yeah he's ready. I do understand that a coach has some loyalties to the kids that have been there too. He has to. It's best for everyone that way. If a junior is on JV there really is only for him to sit varsity he can't be moved down. So the coach uses the options he has available. There really isn't a rush to play up but a coach should not say anything to a kid about it until they know that it will be. There was no need for them to get his hopes up and then not follow-up wtih him. They promoted a kid who can play infield where my son being a lefty is very limited in the infield. That's the only downside of being a LHP. However, he can throw so his time will come.
